BIOGRAPHY

Masino Intaray comes from the highlands of Southern Palawan Philippines who, together with the Batak and Tagbanwa, are the primary indigenous cultural communities of Palawan. He was Born on April 10, 1943, near the river in Makagwa valley on the foothill of Mantalingayan mountain. He lived in Brooke's Point in Palawan with a wife and four sons. Masino Intaray was a Filipino poet, bard artist, and musician known for performing the local traditions of basal, kulilal, and bagit.

 

He is gifted with creative memory, endurance, clarity of intellect, and spiritual purpose that enable him to chant all through the night, for successive nights, countless tultul (epics), sudsungit (narratives), and tuturan (myths of origin and teachings of ancestors). His excellent works helped to preserved indigenous customs, beliefs, rituals, and traditions in existence that is also documented for at least 50 years.

 

Due to his exceptional skills in poetry and music, he was awarded the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan, or National Living Treasures Award, in 1993.​​
